Default New Rod

For about a month Ronald Dougherty (rod maker) and I have been bumping heads on a light weight X-strong 7' standup rod. We finally came up with a 7' .. 40-100 Calstar Grafighter blank into the gimble for strength ... less than two lbs. I think It'll work for me in the Northern Gulf (Yellowfin/Wahoo) and big sails in Guatamala.

SSAAAWWWEEEEEETT!!!! Will be anxiously awaiting video footage of you catchin' a huge marlin with that thing!

Wish I could handle a 7'-er................. Wait - that didn't sound right.

Any chance of that baby comin' in a 5-6' length....?

Hey Jane

Ron will make one ... any way you want it, outstanding price too. Email him and custom design your own.

Here are some of his rods on Ebay.

eBay Store - bar-bar custom crafted fishing rods: Category 1, Category 2

Tell him Red sent you.

After running from the hurricane i've finally settled on a reel for the rod, a Tiagra 30 WLRSA spooled with 1500 yds 65 PowerPro. A little more weight than i wanted at 5 lbs total, but i wanted line capacity. Thinking about another rod now for a Penn Torque 300LD high speed 6.3:1 ... a lb lighter... 750 yds 70 Saltiga Braid.
