Hey Les,
Just finished spooling a Penn Torque with 650 m = 710 yds of 70lb. Penn sez it'll hold 360yd of 80 ... it has advantages.
BTW .... If you have problems with it .... I'll be glad to take it off your hands.

Thanks RED , I put 100 yds of 80lb backing on her and 1000 yds of the 55lb braid and have room for maybe another 1000.
Did a surgens knott and it broke at 28-29lbs on our scale pulling off of the rod , does that sound about right ?
The reel has way more drag than the line can handle. At free spool, strike had 8 to 9 lbs and full had 27lbs .
I will have to get some monster mono for a top shot to see what the reel has at WOT.

Is the line actually breaking or is the tag end pulling through?
Note; On the Saltiga line spool ... Eight-braid weave for super smooth surface.
They ain't lying, this stuff is slick like you greased it with teflon grease

It broke.
The scale we were using is not good for this testing , it felt like more than 28-29lbs to me .It sounded like a 22 cal going off under the back poarch and there were long threads at the end , ont a knife cut.
And man when you snap that stuff above water the shock goes right though ya, Heck , it would probally Kill the average guy. LOL

I'm having good luck with a uni knot, picking up 50lbs of downrigger balls in a bucket. I can shake/shock it up & down.
The Surgeon's Knot must be cutting through itself, try more loops in it. If that dosen't work ... change knots.
In comparison to the 70lb i'm using, you should be able to get 40lbs. Put any kind of weights in a bucket, weigh it on a bathroom scale, it''s close enough.

Lester, is the line breaking right at the knot? Have you tried an albright?

Good luck with the 'Albright' Les, I don't think it'll take you too many tries with Saltiga Braid.
