Dauphin Island Suggestions?

I will be visiting Dauphin Island for a week (last visit was 3 years ago) and was hoping to hit the pier for some fishing but it sounds like the pier is in a world of hurt. I am not a avid saltwater fisherman although I like to think that I know my way around a rod and reel. Any alternatives for fishing spots for those without access to a boat?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Hi Jeff, You are right about the main fishing pier being a bit land bound right now. However on the East End of the Island there is a free fishing pier, and some good jetties to work off of behind Fort Gaines. Flounder there as well as the regular stuff. Just north of our Bridge, you will find Cedar Point Landing which is a large and very good fishing pier. Don't forget to surf cast as well off the beaches.

Are there places on Dauphin Island to rent fishing equipment and buy bait?
I would love to rent a rod/reel and cruise the island looking for spots.
