Default Saltwater lures aresenal for the beginner

As I am a beginner, I hope to learn from this thread, and pick up high probability stuff, and save money by not buying impulse lures and plugs.

I am at the centrsl NJ shore, and have several cedar casting plugs about 6 inches, several diamond jigs with pink tails, and have had some success this weekend with some Storm products.

I have never used the Berkeley stuff...

In general what do you guys consider your must haves if you had one Plano box, and were targeting near shore?

We have sold these items for your area,

- 3" or 4" Berkley Gulp Alive Shrimp (Natural, New Penny, White/Glow) with various sized jig heads
- Sea Striker, Got-Cha Lures
- Jeros Tackle Weighted Diamond Jigs
- King Spoon No. 350, Gator Lures
- MirrOlure MirrOdine Suspending Twitchbait - 17MR

This would be a start.

The near shore stuff around me are Fluke and Black Sea Bass in the summer,

and Bluefish, False Albacore, Bonito, Striped Bass, Weakfish, in the spring and summer.

Someone told me over the weekend that although they are not the best eating, bluefish are God's gift to the beginner saltwater fisherman. Made me smile.

The only thing i might add to that is a couple of different 3/4 to 2 oz crippled herring. Everything eats a crippled herring.

First for Stripers, Bluefish and Weakfish nothing works better then a trolling tube.

The difference betwenn these and what I used to use is that I made my own. You can find rolls of surgical tube in most tackle stores. Orange, red and the glow used to be my favorite colors. I would rig them with a ball chain trolling sinker with 30 ft of 50 lb leader, also attach about 5 inches of ball chain to the lure, this allows the tube lure to spin freely and look more natural. The trolling weight size will depend on the depth of water your fishing in.

You can also troll with bunker spoons

and umbrella rigs

On the umbrella rigs instead of using shad I would use tubes

Here's another product made by Berkley. I haven't used this so I really can comment on it.
