Here's the way I've done them all since the first one. These look better than the first 2 crimp one.

I like the second one better too but I leave a little more space between the parts. That way it's a bit more flexable. Are you using an offshore loop at the hook eye? I can't quite tell in the pic.

Also, remember that the pin needs to stick up away from the pointy end of the hook. Pin up- hook down like in the first pic.

this is my pin rig...i use either 150lb momoi or 100lb momoi,smoke...

you're gonna have to drill the weight,to allow the leadeer to pass through it...another variation on this rig is to use single strand wire along with the mono leader, run these together through the hook, and the weight, this will knock down on alot of the bite offs from tooth critters like wahoos...

Default pin rigs

Vettnman,
Yes to chin weights under islanders
No to anti-chafe if you are rigging like your second pic, the hook will settle between the weight and anti-chafe and render it use less.
I rig just like your your #2 when I use 150lb leader and a sleeve that will let you hit it twice with the crimper. The only difference is that my pin is on the other side of the crimp.
If I drop to 100lb I use a rig like Jimmy's; all the crimps for 100lb, that I can find, only allow you to hit it once; so I like to have the 2 sleeves. With that rig it would be possible to use anti-chafe, but I don't.

If anybody knows of a longer aluminium crimp for 100lb please let me know.

Dave, do you know what I mean by an offshore loop? I'm not sure I could describe it. I'm going to do a search now and see if I can link a pic for

you. Knots - How to tie the Offshore loop knot He's actually got it drawn wrong but if you play with the line you'll get it easy.

I gives a bit more chafe protection without needing chafe gear.

If you notice Jimmy's crimp he has stayed away from the edge of the sleeve. This is very important if you catch something that will test you leader strength. If you crimp close to the edge of the sleve it will create a sharper pinch point that will cut the leader.
