Default Garmin 3210 & Purple Moo Screen Protector

I have a Garmin 3210 that is about 1 1/2 years old. I applied a Purple Moo screen protector the day I installed the unit in my boat. I picked my boat up yesterday from the shop and towed it home for the winter. When I arrived home, I took the Garmin cover off of the unit. Much to my dismay, the screen protector that I applied 1 1/2 years ago was peeling up and had large air bubbles under it. I decided to remove it and order a new one. When I peeled the protector off, it removed about 50% of the anti glare protection on the Garmin screen. The screen looked like s**t. I was able to use Windex with amonia to remove the rest of the glare protection. The screen now looks great, very clear, however it is much harder to see in sunlight. I am undecided at this point wether or not to order a different brand screen protector to see if it helps with the direct sunlight, or send it back to Garmin to have a new glass installed. If I have a new glass installed, I will then be reluctant to put the screen protector back on since it ruined the glass in such a short time. Anyone else have a similar problem?

I put on a new navprotector.com every year - put the first one on when it was new and have peeled it 3 times now - never peels the film....you have two choices:
1.see if garmin will give you a new screen and put a nav protector on it immediatiely -
2. just clean the screen and put a navprotector on it

I'd choose #2

Glen,
I was leaning towards #2 if only I knew it would enhance or improve the screen in sunlight. If it won't help, I can always clean it with Windex now that the protective coating is completely gone.

it eliminates glare but dims the screen 10% on small units - also dims some if you are not straight on....just get one and see - i don't sweat things that are 12 bucks in the marine world....

I don't think Garmin is going to "give" you a new screen so you might as well try a new protector. The original glare protection is pretty delicate.

I have the NavProtector on My Simrad and the trick is to change it every year or sooner. Glen is right you loose about 10% brightnes on the screen but it also is matt finished which protects from the glare also.....Mark

Sorry, I should of followed up. I did get all of the protective coating off of the screen and applied a new navprotector on. It looks very nice now. Much easier to see in sunlight than without the protector.

I think you'd have been stunned at the cost to replace the screen. Garmin has great customer service, but for things that are not their fault, the prices can be high.
