Default Speaker Quick Disconnect?

Picture this. Speakers in cooler, Amp in console. Amp and Speakers are wired with a quick disconnect between for times I want to remove the cooler from the boat. Would a 1/4 or 1/8 inch male-female jack work?

been there, done that - these work perfect for speakers - grease em up with delectric grease - wire them for correct polarity...

I'm not saying Glen's idea isn't any good or won't work, but I myself would go with gold plated binding posts. IMO they would make for a more positive contact.

Well, 1/8" plugs and jacks are pretty fragile and you can't connect the size cables you reall need to them anyway. At the least, use 1/4" plugs and sockets. You need to have the jack connected to the amp side and the plug connected to the speaker side or they will short circuit the amp everytime yo plug them in or out.

Radio Shack is not known in electronic circles for high quality components. Switchcraft makes much better connectors. Look for a place that sells to professional electronic shops. Or a big music store.

Want to do it up right? Got $$$ ?

Go to a big music store, one with a sound department and ask to see their "Speakon" connectors.

These will not short when you plug them in and they lock so they don't fall out accidentally.

edit:

OK Glen, now that I actually clicked on your link, that's not what I was thinking you meant, I thought it was a link to 1/8' or 1/4" "phone" plugs. My reply is more aimed at the OP's potential choice.

What you show would work fine but be a little inconvenient for frequent use. Great for disconnecting for service or access but not for connecting and disconnecting a couple times a day.

OK, now I'm reall confused. The "cooler" isn't really a "cooler", it's a speaker cabinet disguised to look like a cooler.

So it isn't moved to get to the drinks. Your suggestion is fine for his purpose (if I finally understand).
