Default Handheld VHF w/GPS & DSC?

Anyone know if a major brand sells handheld VHF units with internal GPS and DSC? Seems like that would be a handy gdget to have in my ditchbag in addition to an EPIRB? And you never have enough boating and fishing gadgets.

Hal,
I do not know of any currently available but I too would be interested. Am looking to replace my 12+ year old handheld at some point in the winter months with a unit like you described.

I have the Standard Horizon HX471S which has DSC and an external GPS connection.

I have the charging cradle (also connects to NMEA) mounted on my console.

I wear the radio in a holster & pop it into the cradle for a postion fix regularly throughout the day.

You could make a wiring harness that would allow a connection to a HH GPS

I love the radio (also has WX, FRS, FM, etc), but wonder how useful the DSC really is, given the limited range of a HH VHF

Thanks Elusive.
Will have to check that unit out as I have a couple of Boaters World gift cards from Christmas just burning a hole in my pocket.

thegpsstore in Ocean Isle, NC says Standard Horizon will have a totally self contained unit out mid February. Cost will be about $250. I'm going to get one.

Hal,
Thanks for the update. Let us know the model # if you find out. I haven't seen any details of this unit yet.
Sounds like the one to have it the details pan out.

That sounds pretty cool. I know your talking handheld but I thought this is pretty cool. http://www.standardhorizon.com/index...3&isArchived=0. Currently I have a STANDARD HORIZON PS 2000 REMOTE MT VHF that wired to my Garmin 188C

Having your lifejackets on board and not wearing them is like putting your seatbelt on during a car accident.

I have the Uniden Mystic. Its a great unit. I got it 2 years ago from BOE Marine. Give Jim a call, he may be able to track one down for you.
