Default Blood bath on Outer Banks today

Today was the first day of a three day commercial season on ocean stripers on the Outer Banks. They were lined up from Kitty Hawk to Corova Beach today. I had to take a ride up north today and check out how they were doing. From what I saw today I am sure they will meet their quota before Thursday and the season will be shut down early. LOTS and LOTS of big stripers all over the beach wrapped up in the nets. The only other fish I saw in any of the nets were dogfish. The boys made some big $$$ today. I saw some huge fish on the beach. Lots of 40 to 50 plus pounders. Each individual that holds a commercial fishing license is aloud to keep 50 fish per day per license. They are getting about $2.50 a pound. I will probably check it out again tomorrow.

It was far from a BLOOD BATH, some guys caught em and some didn't, I know some guys that only caught 2 fish...Also not all License holders can have 50 fish... If 3 guys work the same rig only 50 fish can be sold from that operation...It is a 50 fish per operation limit...I hope we can meet the Quota by Thursday, That will mean I have sold 75 fish and My helper gets to sell 75 fish for our yearly season..... Thats far from a blood bath...Also if you have a Dealer license I'd love to sell you some fish for $2.50 a pound...

Hey Crabman...I got my info from talking to some guys that were out there setting nets yesterday. When they said 2.50 a pound I understood why there was so many people out their yesterday. That would be a great pay day if the info was right and if you were in the right place at the right time. I did see some nets come in with with little to no fish. I would watch two nets being pulled in side by side and they would be loaded up with rock. Then You could go up 500 yards the next two guys would have little to no fish. I really felt bad for some of the guys out there putting in all that time and HARD work to come up with almost nothing. Sorry Crabman if my info on the price and license was not correct I am just going by what I was told. Don't think that I am talking down about commercial fishing either. I grew up here on the Outer Banks and I know lots of people who commercial fish. I grew up fishing nets, crab pots, and shrimping. So please do not take my post the wrong way. I did see many nets on the beach yesterday slam full of rock(but not all nets).ALL I know if one group of guys up in the Corova area had a "blood bath" going on!!! The waxed their a$$. Crabman good luck on getting your Quota!!

Sorry about the finger crabman. I rode up the beach again today and definatly saw a change from yesterday. I did not get up there until lunch time so I do not know how everybody did this morning but it looked pretty bad this afternoon. Hope you guys have a better day tomorrow. Good luck!

I forgot my camera on Tuesday when I saw the big ones. I had it with me yesterday but there was nothing to take a photo of. A buddy of mine got a few pics on Tuesday. I will call him and see if he will email me a few.
