Default Oi 8/20 Report

Left Broad Creek Saturday at a leisurely pace, after talking with a friend who had fished the PC tournament our starting point was the 975 up north. Marked bait fairly quick and put them in at 60 fathoms, thirty minutes later we released our first white of the day. Ended up with another four releases before 11.30 and then added another after lunch. Saw 10 fish hooked 8 and released 6 for the day. Pretty nice being able to see two guys who had never caught a billfish before release multiple fish in a single day. Picked them up around 2:30 and made 38 knots back to the marina.

Great day of fishing

Congrats on the 5 whites..Great day fishing..Looks like we went too far north to start fishing.. We started fishing at 055, 50 fathoms and up to 080 and back to 030 and caught one white at 3pm. Weather was so nice and we were finally marking bait so we fished until 5pm..Nice day on the water but a long slow one..

Nice work on the billfish! I have never caught a billfish before and I hope to change that soon. Do you have any tips for a new guy other than getting a charter and learning from the pros?

jre, all I can recommend is to go with someone who has some experience with it. It is so much easier to pick up on with hands on experience. I have an open spot a lot of times and you are welcome to fish with me but due to Irene this weekend and a duck trip to Canada the first week of Septemeber it may be a while before I get the chance to fish again.

Dave , Mark, if either of you 2 guys has an open spot on your boat one of these days, I'd like to tag along. I'm strictly a meat guy, who has occasionally gotten lucky with a sailfish and a blue hookup, but I don't know the real differences between a meat spread and a billfish spread. Would love to get some hands on expereince on a trip..

I appreciate the offer, but it may be a while before I have time to fish again due to work. I was supposed to be fishing out of Morehead City this weekend, but Irene has messed that up. Unfortunately, it may be next year before I get a chance at a billfish.
