6/4 Fishing Report- Oregon inlet
Thought I'd give a quick report from Saturday. We decided to start somewhere around the 600 and in shallow but when we got to 20 fathoms it didn't look that great. A lot of boats went north and south, and only one initially joined us in the "middle." Eventually found some scattered grass on a small change in about 50 fathoms and set out. Started getting bites almost immediately from some bailers but kept on moving as we weren't interested in messing with them. Scattered grass was awful so we punched through it and into deeper water. Shortly later a small blue marlin crashed the shotgun and it was game on!!
Fought this fish with light drag on 80 pound leader and 15 minutes later had the release, 250 pounder. 10 minutes later we had the fish back to the boat when the leader parted. Set back out and found a piece of float holding some gaffers which yielded 4-5 fish and lost a few more, including one that looked well over 40 pounds. Only 8:30am and boats are still just getting to the grounds!
The big eye bite started going off just above us later on and we gave that a good effort but never did get a bite so it was a pretty slow second half of the day.
After losing that fish two weeks ago it's nice to get a little redemption!
