South Core Banks Surf fishing 9-25
Made a short weekend trip over to South Core to do a little fishing, gigging, and camping. We did most of our surf fishing saturday, catching whiting, spot, croaker, trout, and puppy drum. Most of the fish were too small to keep. Saturday night, i waded the shallows looking for doormats. Found a lot of fresh sign but only found about a 1/2 dozen with the biggest app. 14-15" Tides were a little high with that full moon, but we still had a great time wandering around on the beach. We even found 3 pheasant close to camp which was a treat as I'd heard of the South Core pheasant but had never seen one.

Dave Great pics.. I have not been down on that part of outer banks... The Admiral and myself rode out on Oregon Inlet beach yesterday to look around at low tide and found some good looking sloughs that should hold fish..We love fall surf fishing..

Dave - I've never been over there. Do you ferry over and then you're on your own until you ferry back? Looks like a great place and not crowded like the north end is here, or the south end for that matter. Could you trailer a smallish (18') boat over, and if so, is there really any need for it? Looks like a great getaway for a couple days.

No, once you're over there, you pretty much have what you brought. You have to ferry over. i've seen people take kayaks and the such on top of their vehicle, but there wouldn't really be room to take a boat over. What you could do instead is to put your boat in at Harkers Island and anchor it over in the hook below the lighthouse(Cape Lookout), then ferry your truck over from Davis. The ferry landing is about 10 miles up the beach from the lighthouse. The whole island is probally 18 miles long. That's why we like it so much. It's 18 miles of unspoiled beaches, with no houses, stores or anything for that matter. You can definitly go back in time over there. We're going back next week, the 27-29th to be exact. You should join us Don
