Default Official Hurricane Earl thread....

Guys, watching this one pretty close. I'm in Kill Devil Hills about a 1/4 mile from the ocean...I got the call this morning to start filling emergency generator tanks for the towns of KDH, Nags Head, Manteo, all the cell phone towers, then customers started calling to fill their guardian generator propane tanks.

Haven't seen Cantore yet, but I'm sure he's flying in soon.

Reason I'm worried is because this weather underground forecaster has been, historically, the best tropical forecaster for the last 7 years I've been down here. And he keeps inching it toward the coast...

Wunder Blog : Weather Underground

I'll stay for a Cat 2 hit like Isabelle in 2003, but a Cat 4, man I'm outta here going to somewhere that's made out of cinderblock.

I would definitely say to the guys with boats, you should prolly make your decisions tomorrow after the 11am update. I'm pretty sure dare county will see the 11am update and start the evac for tourists tomorrow.

Hope I'm wrong, but this one is gonna be fast moving...

I didn't take a chance. I took off today and brought the boat back home. Its service time anyway. The boat looks funny sitting in the driveway....Mark

Nice job Mark...everyone down here is talking hurricane party....Not into it, I was cutting plywood for the windows and am gonna make my decision to evac tomorrow. Cat 2 is downed power, Cat 3-4 equals downed houses... Not gonna risk it.

I was at Wanchese/Broad Creek Marina yesterday PM and they are in hurricane mode. They pulling big sportfishers and blocking them on the hard. All the yards will be full today. The forklift crews were moving boats from outside racks and putting them inside the building. I noticed that Mark was gone and Jeff's boat was inside. Also saw Alex's hotrod Regulator was inside 2 stalls from me.. Maybe some of that billfish magic will rub off...
Storm track still too close to call, but evacuations are beginning... The admiral and myself will be here for the duration. I can put up shutters/storm panels and hope for the best....
Regards,
dw

We are going to hold down the fort in Southern Shores. One of the nice things about being up here is we are pretty sheltered, but I guess that also means downed trees.

Luckily for me I took down 8 trees in my yard over the last year.

Best of luck to all and if anyone needs anything checked on after the storm passes let me know.

Matt

Dave,
You take care if you stay. You sure do have a birds eye view from your place!! Everyone hunkering down be careful. At least it will be moving through pretty quickly and not hanging around off the beach.........Mark

Talked with my pops, doesn't seem like many boats will be moving to coinjock. We think Wanchese is too exposed to have your sportfisher sitting on blocks...seen and heard to many falling over throughout the years. I think we are going to stay in the slip unless something changes in the next few hours. We are fueled up and on the pull out list in coinjock in case of a last minute move.

With the track being offshore like it is now it doesn't look like we will catch it bad at all... Obviously that can change but it looks like we'll be catching the weakest part of the storm as of now.

On another note, they better get those rigs out of the way in the shed because we are looking at fishing Sunday/Monday!
