Daughter's First Kings
My oldest daughter, Brittany, had the day off of work so we took advantage of the opportunity to spend the day together and do some fishing. She really wanted a Mahi, one big enough to top her sisters so we headed out Riche’s Inlet around 7:00 this morning to make a run 15 miles out. Started out at AR 366 along with a couple other boats but didn’t find any action. Started over toward the 368 but decided to make a turn for a spot in-between. Paid off with the first king of the day and Brittany’s first ever. After boating that one around 10:30 and making a few circles with no other bites I figured I’d start heading toward the beach. Somewhere around 1:00, in-between the the 366 and Dallas Rocks, the reels start singing and we have a double on. Unfortunately in the me-hem of trying to fight fish, clear lines and keep the boat going in one direction Brittany lost her fish right beside the boat. The hook pulled. I still had mine on and got it along side and Brittany decided to try her hand at gaffing. Well that didn’t go well. The fish lunged and the hook pulled and fish #2 is now free to swim again. Thinking we might just be on a uncharted honey hole we circled around for another try. Ziiiing, thank goodness only one hook-up this time and after clearing all lines the fish was brought to boat and the gaff found it’s mark much to the delight of my daughter. So we’re in the middle of no-where and 2 for 4 on the kings. Well we did touch the leader on the other two so I guess officially they were a release! although not intentional. By 3:00 it was really getting hot and my fuel was getting low so we called it a day and headed for home. Kinda glad I didn’t have to clean four fish, two was plenty. Another great day on the water with one of my daughters. Life is good!
