Potential boat storage places in Wanchese
What are some potential storage places for the boat at Oregon Inlet either in Wanchese, manteo, or Nags Head? I've sold my tow vehicle and not looking to get another for probally a year, so I'm debating about either renting a truck when I do go fishing or just storing the boat down close to OI for a year and using an older tahoe to get it to the ramp(I don't want to use this older tahoe to tow the boat 300 miles round trip if I can help it) Place would have to be cheap(basically just looking for a yard somewhere). Any ideas are welcome! Thx

There is a small storage yard on the right about 1/3 of the way down the road towards Wanchese. You would have passed it many a time. Not sure of the cost or even if they are renting space. There are a few boats in there along with a camper or something, I think. I do not know anything about the place. It is right on the road. Might be worth asking. It is fenced in but gives the impression that the cost might be low. It is nothing fancy which might help with the cost.

I'm pretty sure that yard to the right on the way to Wanchese is Pirate's Cove's yard. Not sure if they'd let you store it there or not.
If your looking for inexpensive, I bet you could find a place in Columbia that will let you store it for real cheap... Just hook up to the boat on your way down 64 for the last little stretch.

Alex, not a bad idea. Columbia is fairly close by. MArk, I'll ask Alan about it next time I talk to him. I'm just tossing ideas around right now. I'm sort of partial to seeing the boat in the yard every day. Not real sure what I'm going to do at the moment, but it's always nice to have options!

Dave,
Alan and I hashed this out a few years back and I found a yard for him to keep the boat locked on the trailer near the manteo airport for about (I think) 60/month with fenced, locked storage with razor wire around it. Self store type deal. Keypad entry 24/7. It's a ten minute drive from the junction of 64 where you can split left to go to manteo or right to go wanchese way. Not the best place but was the cheapest storage at the time. But times change all the time. He'll chime in I'm sure....or gimme a call and I'll get you some contact info for some storage lots around close, numbers on my facebook info, or just PM me on FB, I'll get it.
My driveway is currently boatless, in fact it's downright pitiful not having a boat in the driveway, makes the concrete pad look empty. As far as security, in my hood I left the keys in the boat ignition and the trailer unlocked ALL the time so someone WOULD try and steal it. No one did though, bummer, had to sell it. I'd be happy to offer the side of the driveway, but it'd prolly be too much legal hassle and paperwork and all that other crap that today's society runs on.
Get hold of Alan about that lot in Manteo, if not then give me a call and I'll do some scouting for ya.

Dave, one more thing,
Broad Creek Rack Storage is the best solution for your boat if you don't want to trailer anymore. Safe, secure, dependable and reliable.

Further edit for you business minded folks around....
Someone with 80K in cash could purchase land (appx 3 acres) in close proximity to oregon inlet, bulldoze and gravel it, fence it high security wise with keypad entry 24/7, and sit back and roll in the monthly payments by automatic draft. No maintenance, no fuss. Boat storage is scarce around here. Mann's Harbor is cheap these days....
You would have to grease some elected "officials" to "ease" a few concerns about how to get things done with the right drainage and such...
Just give me a fence maintenance fee every month and you can have my idea for free.

Thx Chris, appreciate the info. Not real sure what I want to do yet. I have an older yukon that I'm paying cash for(assuming it looks as good in person as it does in the ad) that is capable of towing the boat(8200# capacity), but not sure if I want to do that with an older(02) vehicle. Also not sure that I want to store it in a security lot down there where I can't see it every day( I get seperation anxiety ) The price for that lot in Manteo is about right though and sounds like what I'm looking for if I go that option. Just throwing ideas around for now however.
I like the Broad Creek idea, however, I won't be paying off any debt doing that. The whole idea of selling that 08 tahoe was to get rid of a big, long term payment, pay off some extraneous debt, and buy another tow vehicle in about a year. To do that, I need whatever solution I come up with to be a very affordable one as well as be one I'm comfortable with. Thx for the suggestions, if you think of any more, throw em out there
