Default OI Route Update

For anyone that has not been out lately there are a few slight changes in the route to and through the inlet.
If you are heading to the inlet from Wanchese or PC you have to swing a pretty wide port turn as last year entering the channel heading to OIFC and the crack. Just hang tight to the first red nun as you make the port turn as this turn is shoaled up as usual from the north. As you proceed through the first set of markers after the first red nun you will notice that they have placed a red nun at the second set of markers. The channel has been pinched down somewhat in this area. All is fine and good water all the way to OIFC entrance. The crack is fine until you get about 100yds from the of the crack it is pretty shallow during low tide. We came in at low tide and the depth from the keel was 1.8ft for a short distance. Stay tight to the crack markers. As for the channel from the bridge to the inlet it is straight as an arrow and plenty of water all the way. We made the standard southerly turn after the bar and there is plenty of water at low tide 10ft was the shallowest I saw. The whole channel has shifted a little north even towards the bar but it is seems wider than it was last year. Just remember this route is forever changing........Mark

SOOO, by saying "We made the standard southerly turn after the bar and there is plenty of water at low tide 10ft was the shallowest I saw", that means you made the standard southerly run towards the fishin grounds...... any report of good fishing?

I second all Mark's observations, but wanted to add that the north side of the channel at the shoals is getting shallow again. Yesterday it was breaking there about mid incoming tide with only about a four foot swell. It was breaking all across the bar with the outgoing at almost low tide.
Other than a fun ride through the inlet and a pleasant boat ride I've got nothing else to report.

Default Oregon Inlet Channel

Mark, thanks for the channel info. I will be returning to Pirates Cove in March. I always take the long way around (Hell's Gate) when returning in the spring. Updates on the channel at OI and to PC are always helpful. You never know what OI has to offer. Give us an update if you go out in March. I don't think 1' 8" at the end of the crack will work for straight inboards.
Ted

P.S. Keep the videos coming. Enjoyed the hunting video.

Never did find them on tuesday, I think I might have turned the wrong way. I heard they we right out front maybe even a little south.
Maybe they will still be around in a couple weeks.
