Default New Ilander rigging?

You guys think 80 lb Yozuri fluorocarbon is a little bit too light for rigging up my new 9" Ilanders for this time of year?

Lowest mono leader I got is 150lb Momoi.

I surely hope not as I'm running a 80# Seaguar leader myself. I would tyhink that would be fine Chris, especially if you don't button it down on a big fish

Just have to watch out for the Hoos that will cut you off in an instant. We run 12" of wire from the hook to the floro leader to prevent the cut off.

Chris
Nothing less than 150 lb and I still think that you guys are wasting your money with the flouro. Where you guys fish there's to many monsters and I would hate to loss one due to a whimpy leader.
Here in Florida I will use 40 to 60 lb Flouro for Sails when using live bait.

Well,

I put the 80 lb fluoro on there. We'll see what happens next weekend or next week. first one that gets busted off, they all go to moimoi 150 lb.

Hope they don't get broken, I've got about $57 riding around per crimp on the business end.

I agree the lowest I rig a hawaiian eye is with 130...Normally 150, sometimes 200, and during the summer, 400. I think 80 is just too light.

Just thinking they might be a little leader shy these days.....

I'll let you guys know... Ilander riding with 10 beads, mustad 7691s hook pin rigged with a ballyhoo on the back, will be dragged by a 50W with 80 lb mono. Drag on the reel is +/- 15 lbs.

Different strokes for different folks I guess. All I have ever used is 80-100 lb Flouro for Tuna, Whites and Sails. Now Blue Marlin and large BFTs are a different story we use 200-300 hard momoi. We have never been broken off using 80-100lb leader. Our windons are 25-30ft in length. If you sleeve crimping fails that is not the leaders fault. This one was caught on 80lb flouro leader......
