Default Hatteras inlet

Well the ultimate goal is moving this regulator from Manteo to MHC this weekend. In between I think we are gonna leave Wanchese bright and early sunday, run the sound to Hatteras, and fish a 3/4 day out of there, then spend the night and fish our way down to MHC on Monday for another 3/4 day.

Capt. Fred, Headhunt Alan, or anyone else....

I haven't been through hatteras in 2 years, anything major changed that I need to know about? Planning on joining the channel from the sound by Oden's then heading out the inlet. I remember there being a couple tricky spots, but nothing I need to be worried about in an outboard??

Any updates appreciated. Thanks guys.

Alex, Give me a call and I will meet you Saturday . I have numbers down the sound to Hatteras via Rollason's channel. Need to be aware of target ships and stay on east side b ut they are marked by 2 buoys. Channel from Odens or Teaches is a little snaky but very well marked and plenty of boat traffic ( green on right from the time you enter Rollasons from the sound). Hatteras Inlet is straight out and NE breeze no problem.. Should be a fun trip.
Good Luck, dw

Of course things move all the time, but the marked channel should be good. The only thing I know of that has changed is that Ernie's slough isn't passable anymore, but I doubt you were interested in going out that way, your last name really needs to be Foster and your boat needs to be over 50 years old if you are going that way ;-). The most important thing is how fast the tide is running when you go out and if the weather forecast has anything south in it.

The ferry channel is still marked very good. A couple of spots about half way to the inlet were shoaling up so they put out some small cans which tightened it up a bit. Sometimes they are pretty hard to see. It's a little shallow around buoys 6 and 8 on the red side. That's right before you get to the inlet. Otherwise, not bad unless like fishbard says. Fast tide going out and a southerly will make it ugly.

On your way down to MHC, there is a canyon/crack around the 900 line 100 fa. Good place for wahoo. Thats a 180 heading about 30 miles. I always catch fish down there.
