Arrow Sunday Monday OI Report!!

What a great Sunday and Monday fishing out of Oregon inlet!! Lots of boats on the water and it was almost like a combat zone with everyone getting hookups on mostly Sails and a few Whites thrown in for good measure. We started the day kind of slow but after we settled in we had a White come in crashing the squid teaser almost engulfing the last squid in the chain!! I reeled in the teaser as Alan (Headhunt) dropped back the TLD25 with dink bait to the White. The White turned and piled on the dink 15 ft behind the boat. After a six count it was on with the white and after a short fight we released the White.
While fighting the White I talked to Bryan talking on the radio and they were hooked up as well a little north of us. I have Bryan on the Video and the big boys talking about the black outboard hooking up!!
We had a few more chances Sunday loosing a white and whiffing on a few Sails. Then at the end of the day we had another Hot Hot Sail attacking the port Squid chain and after three drop backs and the teaser 3 ft off the transom Walt with the third drop back to this sail came tight and hooked up the Sail on the 25. This Sail peeled off quite a bit of line and Walt finally brought him to the boat for the second release for the day. At the end of day one we were one for two on the Whites and one for three on the Sails.
Monday was a interesting day. The Ocean was flat calm and the fish were not near as aggressive as Sunday. Most of the hits came on the long riggers and the center rigger. With only a few coming up on the teasers. It was kind of frustrating the sails would pop the riggers but not take the drop back after the initial hit or they would take the drop back then come unbuttoned !! By 2:00pm we were 0-8 !! That is right ZERO for eight. Feeling a little dejected we talked about what was going on or better yet what was not going on so we thought we would try something new if we had another shot. Well that shot came again when a nice Sail attacked the port long. I immediately dropped the boat speed down to idle as Alan dropped back to the sail. The Sail engulfed the drop back and we finally had a release on a nice Sail. We ended the day only one for nine on the sails but did learn quite a bit while fishing flat calm bathtub conditions.
It was nice chatting with Squid and Dave on the radio Sunday then Monday. Everyone had a great few days fishing and lots of chances with the Whites and Sails. Got some Great footage which I will post at a later date.....Great couple days of fishing...... Tight lines Mark

Well at least you caught a couple! Those lazy ones are frustrating! How far back are you pulling your chains?

Alex we were pulling the chains about 20yds back. Everything was within 50-60yds of the Transom. Very close. Our problem like in most CCs is that we cant see them in the spread on the long lines until they whack one out of the clip...Mark

Nice report Mark. That was a cool trip. If we went out tomorrow and had the same action.... we would be 3 for 9 at least. We made some nice adjustments on the longs and center.

What was cool to me was us going 2 for 5 off the teasers with the bait and switch. I think we will be much better on the longs next time with the new technique but off the teasers, we were real close to being 4 for 5.... These fish have to be caught... they ain't going to come up and hook themselves like a tuna. Occasionally that will happen but that's not the norm. I had a blast.

Thanks for a nice trip. It's raised both of our games a notch.

Alan

Sounds like fun guys. I got out on a friends boat for a few hours on Sat and there were a ton of whites and sails around then too. We ended up one for three. Two of the fish were definitely whites and the third in the spread I think was a sail. The white we caught was a nice one. We were in the tuna hole the entire time. Just us and a few boats for about an hour and then the whole fleet showed up. We went inshore to try for some spanish but it was raining cats and dogs in there so we went home.

Good job Mark and crew.. We enjoyed fishing with and around you this week-end. We went 1-3 on sailfish on Saturday and 2-4 on Monday.. Beautiful days on water. I hope the tropical stuff does not mess up the fishing!!!

As info, Be and Berry and friends that fished on the Pelican out of Oregon Inlet yesterday went 10-18 on sailfish, including several multiple hook-ups...
Extrordiniary sailfish bite last couple weeks....
