Cat 3 and less, I'm staying. Direct hit with a Cat 4 or above, I'm outta here with all the important files. It's too much of a pain in the ass to get back on the island once the storm is coming. I got the john boat so I can float off that in the yard if need be. If that's not big enough the Seapro is in the driveway. We're pretty sheltered here back in First Flight Village. Biggest thing I have to worry about is rising ground water and falling trees. The worst thing here is drainage. If it's been raining for a week straight before a hurricane the ground is soggy and all the trees are coming down once the winds start blowing.
Kids and wife and dogs are outta here with a Cat 2 forecast two days in advance to ride it out in the mountains of VA.
I'm with Chris! That's pretty much my plan with the Hurricanes.
Up where I'm at in Southern Shores, my main concern are the trees even after I had 8 taken down last year.
I still to this day believe if we have a direct hit from either a 4 or 5 this whole island we call home will be gone & we will all have to relocate somewhere else.
Let's hope that doesn't happen anytime soon. Should be some good surf this weekend from Bill & as of now that's about it. I will be sitting on the beach in South Nags Head on Saturday watching the waves roll in as long as I can!
