Default Oi 8/11

Fished today again on my buddies regulator 29. I convinced him to have the new boat delivered to OI for billfishing last week and basically promised him a billfish if he brought it....Well we fished friday and saturday with some sightings in the spread but no love. It may be hard for yall to understand this but this family has been jinxed billfishing for a couple of years now! Last year in the Bahamas we hooked a couple and had some serious issues and lost the fish.

I fished sunday on a different boat and caught a sail he came in dejected....with nothing.

ANYWAYS to the report. Put lines in at the 822 in 50 fathoms and fished north a little ways starting at 6:45. About 45 minutes later I realized we'd overshot where we needed to be. No current at all. Worked our way back south and hunkered down between the 780 and 800 for the rest of the day. We were probably the 6th or 7th boat there and by the end of the day I counted dang near 50.

Got lines in here and before we had the spread out the flat popped and caught me off guard. I was way to late and reeled the mangled bait in with no luck. Picked up a throwback blackfin after that. I started snacking when a white thought our teaser looked appetizing and was all over it. Finally got him off and onto my dink bait but he spit the hook. Comes back into the spread on another teaser and I grab another dink rod and drop that back to him a couple times until he faded. next we had one tailing right next to the boat but nothing. Caught and released a nice bonita. Well 1 o'clock rolls around and we're still skunked on bills. I'm rerigging longrigger when we get a suicide sail on the flat line. Fought him conservatively and got the release to break my buddies hex and put the first notch on the regulator. Stayed around until 4:30 and had a white cruise right through the spread never to be seen again and called it a day after that.

Oh yeah, thoroughly enjoyed throwing my buddy in the water! Pics and maybe video to follow....fish didn't jump but 2 times.

Yeah I was glad my buddy got his share. For not fishing full time I've had a good year billfishing and it's not over yet.

Mark, the PC tournament ends friday so you'll just be dealing with the same ole same ole starting saturday.

97 billfish released over I believe 76 boats today.

Oh, and did I mention the Tuna Teaser got 3rd place lady angler for the Alice Kelly?

No it was my pops boat, the OI tuna teaser! It was the lady's first time offshore and she hooked the white herself and brought it in...pretty friggin work. I was fishing on another boat that day. Not sure whether it was a record or not today but it was wild because the fish all came in waves.

20-30 releases then a lull for an hour, then it would get hot again. interesting stuff.

The billfish were caught +/- 750 line around 100 fathoms. Quite a sight to see all the battlewagons parade back into the Marina. Beautiful boats including a 83' Viking (22' beam) "Alexis" owned by a Virginia Beach car dealer. The Clunker program must be working...Weather looks good this week-end and my guess the fish will still be here, so we will probably go 2 days..

Yeh we fished next to the Alexis boat for awhile and it absolutely dwarfed us...Saw the Tag N Stick catch their fish right near us as well.

Yeah we tend to leave those lights on... Brandon Boone was running the boat that day.

Anyways, fished friday and got a nice white for the other brother so the curse is officially gone. Saturday we went out and pulled a sail off a bait ball on the longrigger. I was hoping we could get another. Missed another lazy billfish on the longrigger and managed to see a bunch of freejumpers and cutters late in the afternoon but no bites.

Hope yall caught em up today.
