My apologies for my tardiness as of late, but the Fight N Lady has been running nearly non stop since July 4th. Since then, we have fished 17 of 25 days doing both half day and gulfstream trips. The half day fishing has been unreal with catches of Spanish mackerel numbering 50 or more most days. With the abundance of bait that has shown up on the beach and around the inlet all we have had to do is work from one bait ball to another picking off the macks and bluefish in every turn. We have also caught some very large macks with lengths over 24 inches.
In the gulfstream the billfish bite has been red hot with boats getting multiple shots at billfish a day. The majority of the shots have come from white marlin and sailfish but there have also been several blue marlin released by the fleet in the past few weeks. In all honesty, the meatfish bite had been fairly slow to start in July but it is starting to pick back up and the wahoo are beginning to hit the docks with more frequency. On the Fight N Lady, we have been lucky enough to score at least one billfish release on each of our gulfstream trips in the past two weeks. To target the whites and sails we have been pulling mostly naked 'dink' baits with circle hooks and one large bait on a short rigger for a blue marlin. To finish off the spread we are usually running two Bluewater Candy dredges and two Squidnation squid chains.
This billfish bite should continue into September with the best wahoo times being Sept. and Oct. Fall is also one of the best times for our 1/2 and 3/4 day trips with the King Mackerel fishing being great on the wrecks and reefs close to the beach. For more info and open dates visit our website at
