Default Skiligal (OI) or Marlin Mania (HI) in late July?

I know there are a lot of great boats/captains out there, but based on the guys that'll be going and their (our) interests/prior experiences, we're trying to decided between Oregon Inlet or Hatteras Inlet (or, depending on how you look at it, Capt Bowman's boat or Capt Peck's boat).

We MEAT fish. Billfish are exciting, but for 1200-1700 we want dinner, and not to just bail some dolphin an hour before we head back after 5 hours of warming up the captain for his next billfish tournament.

I don't know if that is an unpopular point of view, but that's the point of view of all 6 guys ponying up the cash...so that said, any thoughts, reasons, etc. for going on one boat or the other, or one port or the other?

to bad you cant go now the Tuna both Bigeyes and YFT seems to really be heating up!! I would say july Hatteras for dolphin and Wahoo or OI for bigger dolphin and maybe some tunas possibly some Bigeyes.Ther will bill fish in both locations.

Neither.

Seaducer from OI. Capt Daniels MEAT fishes. Tell him you want meat, he'll drive you to them. He also has the greenstick, so he can produce fish even when it's slow. He doesn't fish tourneys either.

Unfortunately, (or Fortunately, depends) in late July, you're gonna get gaffer dolphin and a billfish release from OI.

BTW, Seaducer let go the Skiligal's current mate last year. Seaducer has another Capt mating for a season this year.

Chris,

Any scoop on Cpt. Mike Warren? He runs Hatteras Blue and I'm probably going to get pulled into a charter with friends of mine who already put down $$ last year, but got postponed due to weather. They aren't fishermen and got a recommendation on Cpt. Mike, but from who I don't know.

We're also shooting for late July, however, I will be lobbying hard to target billfish since the tuna will be scarce anyway. I certainly won't be opposed to dragging some Wahoo lures either.

Prodigal, I think the opinion on what to fish for depends largely on the current state of your freezer. Fortunately for me, it's pretty full!

I would take Chris's suggestion...if for no other reason than the Green Stick!!

Yeah, like I say, the guys going (some more experienced than I, some less) sorta have it narrowed down to those two between previous experiences, etc. I'm not at all opposed to checking out another captain, I just don't want to sell the other 5 on someone else and then for whatever reason have a shitty day and then have everyone looking at me when we get back to docks...

Thanks for the recommendations and feel free to keep them coming.
