If you're looking to have some fun with the wife inside just get some fresh shrimp and small hooks on bottom rigs and find some water around the sound. Around the bridges, like manns harbor, colington hole, or the sound bridge. We've been catching black drum, spot, flounder, and croaker. I even caught a 9" spanish mackeral. Fun way to pass the time and not burn alot of fuel.

Dave, if the water right off the beach was any indication of the conditions in the stream, then you certainly missed a primo day to be offshore.

I had a friend come down and we were debating on whether or not to just head east and look for grass (not full on "offshore" so to speak) but we decided that sans the bottom machine might not be a good idea. Packed a cooler and headed to the beach and started kicking ourselves, there was a 12ft RIB out there not even bouncing...then a guy goes by in a yacht tender with a 3.5hp motor...pretty calm to say the least.

Is there anywhere else down here other than the Furuno place that I might find a used bottom machine? He offered to "give me a deal" on another 582L for $500. I bought the one that crapped out from him a year ago for $400. Devaluing dollar is killing everyone apparently.

We left the marina about 10Am and headed towards Oregon Inlet where upon arriving the seas were calm and I got permission from the Admiral to proceed thru the inlet. We trolled and caught lots of small bluefish. No Spanish. We kept enough to filet for a meal and a couple for flounder bait and came back inside the bridge and drifted along the channel edge and caught 4-5 flounder including 2 -16" keepers. Now we have 2 meals of fresh fish!! Flounder baits were bluefish and squid strips..All in all a great day on the water and I earned a lot of points which I needed.
Note: Gas price at Broad Creek Marina is $4.41 /gal down from $4.55....Diesel is $4.19....
Regards and have Fun!
