Default Tarpon at Avalon pier

I just read this on a local tackle shops website. This happened this afternoon. I sure would like to have witnessed this fight.

Avalon- a king or two, and a 100+lb tarpon was lost right before the storm hit. Cobia Jim was doing all he could do, but between the fish almost spooling him, and the lightning popping and getting closer, it was time to go! The tarpon agreed because the line broke near the tip and he was gone.

I have no idea if anybody got any photos. I will ask around tomorrow. I know there is usually a couple caught each year off of the piers down south but this is the first one I have heard of this year.

My shop is one mile from avalon pier.

The lightning hit a power pole 1/10th of a mile from the office on the bypass, knocked out the power for 5 minutes.

It was a wicked thunderstorm. I can back up that side of the story.
