OI 6/21 Report
Started out at 5:20 and cleared the inlet heading for the 800 line. It looked like 2/3 ran south and the other 1/3 heading our way. Since we were trying to catch a billfish so we skipped some for sure mahi areas and went straight to the 100 fathom line. Swordfish had just dropped lines as well and 10 minutes later he was fighting a white 50 yards from where we started. Damn! We caught a nice gaffer shortly after. Then saw swordfish backing down near us again! Anyways this would be the trend of the day...we saw one white in our spread but couldn't get him to eat. We continued to watch sea note catch 2, outer limits fought a blue, and a few other boats. The bite wasn't red hot but we were in the right spot.
Right there at the end of the day I found a nice wooden container and watched 5 lines pop as they passed, boated 3 gaffers and a slinger- a little crazy because I was on the bridge with pops asleep below...everyone in the pit was green but they handled it well! Picked up a couple more gaffers and I think 19 bailers here before calling it a day. My buddies enjoyed bailing but I really liked our odds saturday for a bill and it just wasn't meant to be! Oh well we'll try at it again soon. Riding through that storm 17 miles out was fun though!
Sorry forgot the camera so no pictures this time. Maybe I can get some from my brother later.
