Default Any experience with any of the pet boarding places/pet hospitals on the Outer Banks?

My parents will have their friend's cottage for two weeks at the end of July and we need to find a place for the dog that we can take her out as much as possible. She's getting old now and she's a BIG baby (100lbs and won't even let the vet cut her toenails without whining and crying the whole time.)

We hate boarding her because we always come back to reports of her not eating, acting depressed, etc. so normally my uncle feeds her at our house for a few days and brings her down to the beach for a few days, but this year being two weeks and coincidentally my uncle being unavailable, we're looking at trying to board her down there and just take her out for most of the day most days.

Experience with anywhere down there that she would be able to sleep in peace and we wouldn't have trouble getting her in and out? Never had much experience with doing that...since you usually board your pet to NOT take them in and out.

Appreciate any leads...

Ryan give the Roanoke Island Animal Clinic a call. Dr Grossman and his staff are awesome. I have used them for over fifteen years and I cannot say one bad thing about them. As a matter of a fact I will be boarding my jack russel and my brother in-law's pit bull there tomorrow for five days. Since the pit bull has never been boarded(he is a big baby) they are going to put both dogs in one big kennel together. They have always gone the extra mile to take care of your animals. I am sure they will work with your family on picking your dog up from time to time. The number is 1-252-473-3117.

I couldn't agree more with Chris post, in my mind Dr. Grossman is THE BEST Vet on the beach, but for some people being in Manteo can be a pain in the butt.

I take one of my Labs to Dr. Grossman & one to Martins Point Animal Hospital. Long story, don't ask, the older one still goes to Martins Point younger one had some serious skin issues and Dr. Grossman was the only one who could figure out what it was.

I have never boarded my dogs, but I know my parents have boarded theirs and I would also put Martins Point into the mix. They have some great people that work there and they are located right at the foot of the Wright Memorial Bridge. They are also very used to people coming to pick their dogs up for the day then taking them back...

Their cottage is just past Jockey's Ridge (headed South) so Manteo isn't that serious, actually closer than some points North that sound like they are just up the street, when you consider summertime traffic.

I'll give Roanoke Island a call.

Thanks, and feel free to throw other ideas at me, we've got 5-6 weeks to figure it out.

Yes, I have always heard good things about Dr. Welch also, I just wasn't sure if they boarded there or not.
