Default OI report 5/22 The Belly Dancer scores BIG!!

Well what can I say, we had a hell of a day. Left the ramp at 5am and had lines in the water at 6am, ran 48-50mph the entire ride out and it was an awesome ride out. Trolled around for a few hours with tons of life dolphins, whales, birds water was 63 to 68 degrees. About 10:30 line goes off and we put a nice 20lb dolphin in the box. We put the spread back out and a few hours later a rod starts screaming, Todd (nailman) is on the rod. This thing is peeling drag off at a rapid pace, about 30 min later we see color and it's a big @ss tuna. Get it to the boat, sink a gaff in it and can't get it in the boat so we sink another gaff in it and pull it over. This fish wound up being 110lb big eye. Biggest fish on my boat to date........until............. lines back out bout 1 hour later 3 rods just start hummin', I pick one up Micky (reel crafty) picks one up and the other we get to late and the fish pulls the hook. About 2 minutes after we pick up the rod we realize these fish are big, and probably more big eyes. So I fight mine for about 20min or so and get it to the boat it begins to come up sideways, this is another big @ss tuna so we figure this one is goin' in the box well it makes one more run and the line goes slack! Hook pulled out but wait a minute what's that floating up to the surface?? The big eye was so worn out it floated back to the surface where it floated for about 15 seconds we whip the boat around to see if we can gaff it, but by this time it swam away. Micky is still fighting his fish, and it's down deep not wanting to come up. Straight down like you were bottom fishing. Bout and hour later we see color and realize this thing is a monster, get it up beside the boat and sink a gaff in it, then grab another gaff and put that one to it. Try to pull if over and can't get it in the boat, it took to gaffs and someone on the tail to get it in. When this thing hit the deck it was big. Congrats to Micky for getting the fish in the boat, we have a braid belt to use with all the bells and whistles but forgot the part that goes around your lower section at home. It was a fight to get it in, but we pulled it off. Final weight back at the fishing center was 185lbs!! So we figure what the hell well troll around another hour or so, 2 more lines go down and we make short work of 2 40lb yft!! This was the best fishing day I and the crew have ever had, it was a blast. We wound up with 190bls of fillet's, looks like the neighbors will be eating good for awhile. And a big thanks to Get Reel for the secret weapons!!

Final Tally .........2 for 4 on Big Eyes....110lb & 185bl
1 for 1 on Mahi.........20bl
2 for 2 on YFT.............40lb

What a day!!

BTW, Congrats Ktrain. Can you tell a rookie that's coming down shortly about where the fish were at? Where you way down south or farther north? I've been noticing, it seems like the afternoon bite is producing better than the morning bite. I'm ready to get on out there

Congrats on that awesome day! We've been offshore twice this Spring with no success. Hopefully that will change this weekend. Later, Dean
