Default Boat Rolled in Oregon Inlet 4/20

I heard about this yesterday but was trying to get the full story. Went over to ReelBuzz and checked on the Poachers Message Board and he's what happened.

Quote:
This 25ft center console tried the inlet on Fri and didn't fair very well as you can see. Hope no one was hurt, really don't know what the outcome was. I do know that the inlet was closed out all-day on Fri with most of the offshore boats running down the sound to go out Hatteras inlet.

Ron was coming in the inlet on Friday and saw them sitting on the top or rather make that the bottom of the boat and went over and picked them up. It was their first trip out on the new boat, they saw the swell as they approached the bar and turned to come back in and it rolled them. Just a bruised ego.
I don't think the is an actual picture as it looks a little to calm for me, but here's the picture that went along with the writeup.

I'm glad everyone is ok, that inlet can be a BEAST!

Yeah not sure if it is the correct picture or not...but they were scooped out east of the bar and had drifted a good deal further from where they rolled. Even though they weren't in the inlet, still looks calm.

Hey Matt, that was probably taken in the sound. We saw the boat in the shortcut channel on our way out Sat morning.
Turning around in a narrow inlet like OI is not a good idea, one you commit it is out and back in or not out at all....bad idea.

I spoke to the captain of that boat today. It really did happen in the inlet. I think the photo was taken once it moved to calmer waters. The captain explained to me that it took 24 hours to salvage it. I was curious on what happen, because I too own a 23ft boat and I have had some tense times while punching the inlet in the past. It was explained to me that is was some what calm when he left out , however it got crazy coming in. He told me a shoal was not marked and he struck it, then a massive wave crashed on his stern and then the bow took one. Water then began to go over the gunwhale causing the boat to flip. The captain and mate went over board, they were both plucked out by a passing vessel. He said, " It happened fast!" Oh ,yea it was a 23ft cuddy cabin , Sea Pro and NO FISH were caught. LUCKY, LUCKY !!! Maybe fuel cost will go down by the time he is back fishing??????

...unmarked shoal in OI??? No way!
Yeah there's a few. We could spend a morning (and make a few new friends plucking boats off the dog leg past Little Tim Island from OI fishing center.
