Lester, you are saying "what if", but the guy that bought my Talon 22 had a turbine driven boat that worked very well. It was moderately fast at 38 feet and 155 mph. Casale will build you a double shaft V-drive for it. The ones they are using in top fuel hydro will take about 5000 horsepower and deliver it to the eater.

Kern O , I have seen turbine powered boats and tractors , man they are cool , last year we had a turbine powered boat and another collide here on Lake Texoma during a Poker run [ Bad crash and people died ] it was determend it was a mechanical failure that caused the accident . They lost steering at about 150 mph and went into a hard over turn and one boat ran over the other.
We are triing to get the wings on the boat so it will fly like a plane.

Well heck, at 200 MPH it won't take long to get to the fish. I wonder how that thing would do with 2 to 4's?

Lester: If you want to break the record in top fuel hydro, you need to beat 255 mph. Oh, you also have to get there in a quarter mile...............The record was set at Red Bluff, CA in 2006

I don't know a thing about racing boats but I wiped out real hard a couple of times going maybe 30 while water skiing. Based on those experiences I would imaginge that a wipe out in that boat would likely be fatal? Are they in some sort of NASCAR cage?

My Bad , 221 was the 2001 record
Warby set his water-speed record of 317.596 mph on a lake in Australia nearly 20 years ago.
It has been challenged by only two daring young men since. With predictable results.
"Two tried, two died," reports Warby laconically.
And that record is with a turbine engine , every one else thats gotten close has died.
Hey Kern can we agree , these guys are CRAZY .......

I drove a blown gas hydro for several years. One of the things you learn is that if something is going to go wrong, it will be over before you knew it was going to happen. The current class regulations call for capsules on all the fast stuff. But falling out of a boat at 80 can be an interesting experience. That's about as fast as I've met the water. There were a couple times I should have gone in at much higher speed, but for whatever reason, I managed to drive it out. I'd like to say skill, but it is really luck that lets you make the one move that actually puts the boat back down on the water. It usually starts when the bow comes up and you see nothing but sky.....
Speed channel shows the IHBA races about this time of year.

Back to topic, small boats really are inefficient but I am suprised how little fuel the 757 used for the trip. Makes you think that boats designers need to think out of the box more. When you consider that calm water can be a planar surface there ought to be a better way of transversing it without so much disturbance.
Seems like we need a new radical approach from someone who doesn't know it can't be done. There have been a lot of inventions brought about in this manner. It is absurd that a 16' boat gets about the same mileage as an 80,000 lb tractor trailer rig moving twice as fast.
Y'all put on your thinking caps and work this out! You could make enough off of this idea to fish full time.

If there was a way to multiply the effects of the force the way a block and tackle do. Hmmmm. Or if the hull could change shape. Variable pitch props like on an airplane seems like it would help.
