Now this if funny! I've taken out some of the e-mail addresses but this is the text of an exchange I had with a major on-line marine parts distributer. Can anyone guess who? Oh and I admit my original e-mail could have been more accurate but I didn't think to dig for the exact date on something that should last for years and has only lasted probably 30 minutes of run time. Funny thing is the starboard motor is fine. Anyways, this cracked me up.

Hi there,

I got an AFI wiper motor from you folks a couple of months ago and it broke down this weekend. The outer casing appears melted. I've got a two wiper motors and just the port one died. I could e-mail a picture of it if you'd like or send it back if that would be better. I am running the pantographic type wipers and I'm wondering if maybe this motor isn't powerful enough? I checked the starboard motor and it felt hot but it was running fine. Any ideas?

Also, let me know if you need more info to find my receipt on it.

Thanks,

Ken

Actually its been since May 22, not April. (See scanned document) But , no matter. I'm sure it's still months past your return date. Your inference that my recollection of the date was meant to mislead is enough to make me take my business elsewhere. Permanently.

Ken I could give a shit less where you buy anything, and you trying to accuse me of changing a date is slander. You were sent your copy on the order for the wiper motor. On 5/22 you ordered a KIT not a MOTOR. So get your terms right. Our return window as clearly stated on the site is 15 days. I will make sure you are marked that you and Barbara are marked that you can never order from any of our 43 web sites again, per your statement.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that you are not more familiar with the products you sell. The AFI3700 wiper kit includes a motor and that is the one I installed on the port side. Also, if you are going to ban my wife and I maybe you should get her name right. It's Beverly, not Barbara.

Thanks again,

Ken

Sorry to be the first to reply to my own post but I just read it all the way through and I burst out laughing. I'm the first to admit I could have handled it better but to think that this is a response to a customer that has spent many thousands of dollars in the last few years with this company is just nuts. These came from their "CUSTOMER SERVICE" department! This is what passes for customer service now-a-days.

Now thats a way to run a business??? How do people like that stay in business.

I have a story that had much better results with a rod Company.

Last year I ordered a set of Six matching trolling rods from Chaos rods in FL. During the time of my order they were broken into. (I think everyone remembers the break-in) I dont know if my rods were mixed in with rods stolen or not but it took about 4 months to get the order but to their credit they told me it would take a longer than orginaly stated at the time of my order.
Well when I received the rods I was not 100% satisfied with the rods and contacted Chaos rods. I told them what the problems were and without any hesitation Bryan the owner of Chaos rods told me to keep the rods and use them untill they could get another set of 6 matching rods done for me. I had contacted them a few times checking on the progress and Anne Marie and Bryan at Chaos were as nice as they could be and always answered my e-mails or phone calls positively and directly.
I have received the new set of rods and could not be happier with there service and products. Needless to say they will be my rod company from here on out because of their great customer service. I understand things happen and mistakes are made but how the problem is handled makes all the difference in the world. In my book companies that take care of problems the correct way deserve our business......Mark

Is that response from the owner of the company?

If not, I would send the info to the owners (or supervisors) so that they know how their customers are being treated.

I believe it is from one of the owners. I really don't want to slam them too publicly as I did push his buttons a little and I know they are the cheapest around. You can't provide a cheap price and still provide the best service. But I didn't expect that response! I don't know if we've got board mail at this site but if so b-mail me and I'll let you know who it was.

One of the reasons we are all on the board is to learn from others, either their knowledge or mistakes. You should post the company so that others will not experience the same fate as you.
