Default Whats up with Johnson/Evinrude?

I have a fellow employee that is shopping for a jonboat to duck hunt out of and we were looking at stuff online on Wednesday and I noticed that no dealer here in NC seems to be selling Johnson/Evinrude outboards anywhere. Did Bombardier mess them up that bad? I have a couple of local magazines that come to the house in the mail and none of them advertise them either. Man talk about a loss of market share in one of the largest boating/fishing areas in the nation. Wonder what happened?

That's weird. I know there are some dealers in NC that sell them but you'd think the boat dealers would be hanging some of them off the back of their boats. Was it mostly Yamaha and Merc?

Thats all you see. Yamaha, Suzuki, Mercury. There are dealers listed here that are supposed to be Evinrude dealers but I have yet to see advertisements lately. Back in the 80s I have a couple of Evinrudes and they were great engines. Seems like they have given up maybe?

I think this may explain what happened. I just stumbled on this and though it to be interesting:

Yes, bought up by Bombardier a few years ago, the Etec designs are the newest. I think Johnson will be the sacrificial lamb soon, not much point in having two separate companies selling the same thing. Currently Johnson still has the small engine lines but my hunch is as the E tecs spread down the line the Johnsons will be phazed out.
