Default 3M Dual Lock Project.....

Here’s another tip that I have had on the last three boats. Everyone has a place on the dash or close by to store their phone, cam, remotes and things you need to get to quickly. But sometimes they become lost among the others things that you also need quickly! My mini storage area in my elec box becomes like my wife’s purse, I can never find the exact thing I’m looking for when I need it. Here’s a nice solution. The stuff is made by 3M and it’s called DUAL LOCK. It is not Heavy duty Velcro, it’s hard stubble that locks into place when another piece is pressed on top of it. It is unbelievably strong with a strong adhesive used. It can hold speakers in place, my VHF is stuck to the top of my electronics box and certainly everything you might need on the dash. It looks like this:

It comes in black and clear. I have two clear pieces on my dash that if I did not point it out you would not see them, thus giving you a clean look and not a dash littered with stuff or “add ons”.. They are on each corner and usually hold my digital cam and lift remote or cell phone:

As said the stuff is strong…stuff does not come loose once stuck. Here’s a set of speakers I used to have and some fans that cool my amp:

You can get it at West marine but I like a Touring bike website that sells it cheaper and in larger quantities. Get it here:

I can attest to the strength and durability of this product as we use it in various applications at work. Very good product.

Another hint, use some rubbing alcohol to prep the surface you will be applying the adhesive to. I promise you this, you will need a crowbar to remove it.

agreed! I usually peel a corner up, spray a bit of 3M adhesive remover under it and rip it off with a set of pliers...never had it do damage to any surface I stuck it to.....

Wow, cool looking stuff. I can think of a ton of uses. I'm always stumbling around looking for something or another that I had in my hand 20 minutes ago. How do things dissapear so fast in the cockpit of a 25 footer?? Thanks guys.

I had a lift and lay antenna mount with 4' vhf antenna on my truck with Seatow for over a year and it held until I pulled it off. Stuck like cement

3M makes several versions of "Velcro", ranging from the common stuff you see all the time to the dual lock. They are all rated for holding strength and how many times something can be taken of before it looses its grip. It comes in a marine grade with salt water resistant glue.

I held the swim step on the bracket of the Jupiter with it. No bolts required.

Here's a source for the info. The catalog is one of life's essentials. If it is hardware, they have it.

Go here: http://www.mcmaster.com/ Then do a search for "hook and loop".

I have that stuff holding my trailer brake controller in the dash pocket on my truck. Works great.

Ah yes, McMaster is indeed a great resource.

Hey folks. Do you think that this stuff could be used to hold my cockpit pads on along the gunnel? I've got to replace mine this winter and I believe that the existing ones were installed before the cap was put on the boat. It looks like the fasteners are hidden from access and I'm not quite sure how to attach the new ones. I plan on making my own (I'm quite the little seamstress LOL) and have been scratching my head about attaching them to the gunnel.
