Default Hello

Just wanted to say, "Hello," I've just joined this forum and look forward to the give-and-take of boating information. We have a 2000 Chaparral Signature 240, which we recently bought. We are boating and fishing (hopefully) on the south shore of Suffolk County, Long Island, NY. I've been boating and fishing most of my life. I grew up around my father's the auto repair business and am fairly knowledgeable about engines, mechanics, and such. I've rebuilt two cabin cruisers, building, refurbishing, or replacing almost all the parts other than the hulls themselves. I've been fishing for flounder and fluke since I was four or five years old. Back then, 100-150 fish a day per person wasn't uncommon. I did promise the admiral that we would do more than fish with this boat, that we would visit other towns and ports. Thanks it for now. Hy

Sorry. I haven't been back to this forum since July. It's not been on a good boating season on the south shore of Long Island. Almost daily strong winds from the south or east. As soon as I figure out how, I'll post some photos. The boat's covered for the winter, but I do have a list of things I want to add or change while she's packed away for a few months. I'm looking forward to the boat show in NYC next month. It's a good way to get the spirits up in the middle of a cold winter. I'll try to post more often. If I can be of help to anyone with engine or boat questions, please ask. Think spring. Hy

What are you thinking about adding? Fishing or boating gear?

My plans include finishing the installation of the windlass, replacing the stereo remote control, adding a set of trumpet horns, installing two recessed rod holders, and adding soft-floor removable panels in the stern area. I've done all the wiring for the windlass, have drilled and sealed all the mounting holes, have made up a 1/4" thick backing plate for it, and have replaced the anchor rode and chain with one which will work with this windlass. All I have to do is bolt it down and connect the two wires to the power cable. I've bought the stereo remote, have the trumpet horns from my previous boat, and need to buy the rod holders and soft flooring. I hope to pick up that stuff at the NY boat show in a few weeks. Hy

Update: The windlass is bolted in. I had to buy shorter bolts; the ones I had bottomed out before tightening. The wiring butt connectors I had on board were the wrong size so I still have to do the final electrical connection. I measured the rear floor/engine cover for the table base location. I took the floor section home (It's warmer in the garage than in the parking lot of the marina.), drilled the center hole and the screw holes and bolted the flush base down and brought it back to the boat. The post is exactly where I want it to be. Now I just have to make up the table top. More snow is due on friday so I don't know when I'll get down to the marina again. Stay warm. Hy
