Arrow Time for a debate!!! Boats raising fish???

I have owned four boats to date and feel that some boats just attract - raise - catch more fish than others. I know the techniques of the people fishing on the boat have something to do with it but I still believe that the boat plays a big part. As a example the when I bought my first boat I bought brand new and my friend bought the same boat everything the same except the motors. We could fish side by side use the same baits and setups yet he could never put a fish in the boat. We would out fish him 10-1. This happened all the time till he sold that boat and bought another which seemed to do a much better job raising fish. What do you guys and gals think about boats raising fish.....Mark

I agree especially if you look at gas vs diesel or wood vs fiberglass. I grew up fishing with my dad on his outboard powered boats and we caught fish. Moved up to a 26' Bertram that was a fish catcher before he got it and repowered it with a set of Volvo AQ171's and could not buy a bite unless the baits were way back. It did raise barracuda though Then we moved to a 42' wooden sportie and raised more fish then ever before for us but we got the most strikes when the baits were right up behind the boat.

Some boats and motors just make that sound that calls fish in or sends them packing.

I believe it. Although I do think it is a combination of boat and motor. Some charter guy's I know hate when outboards come around while Tuna fishing. It seems that deisel powered boats land more Tuna...

I think it is definitely true. But I think it is a bit more complicated too. For example, about a month ago I was on the rock pile off of Hatteras. There were maybe 10 charter boats in the area we were in. All pretty close. The Bite Me was raising 5 fish to everybody else's 1. All trolling the same area with pretty much the same spreads out. On other days I've seen the same result but it might be the Release getting all the fish on that day.

Certainly a poor spread run behind any boat will effect your bite, but with all things being equal (in terms of spread) I think in general deisels raise better than outboards and some boats raise better than others. But some days the fish just gravitate towards a certain boat.

We rarely fish right on the Rock Pile for just this reason. We definitely get more bites if we can find fish on our own and keep some distance from the deisels.

This is what I have found myself. I would rather work a area by myself... I have also found out how amazingly fast the Greensticks can key in on a boat that is hooked up even when you think you are out there by yourself!!...Mark

I agree, but would like to add another theory. I had a Stamas 29 Tarpon with twin Honda 225's that I sold to a commercial charter operation on Maui. The guy who drives the boat had never done much fishing. There are (of course) the old timers who have been fishing for years who scoffed when he said he was going to offer fishing charters. Guess what. He has had the boat about a year and regularly is high man at the dock. Why? I think it has to do with how clear or turbulent the wake is and how the fish see the spread in the wake. That's not to say sound is not a factor, but the Stamas leaves a pretty clear wake. For whatever reason, that boat just plain raises fish.

I always thought it had to do w/ the loud music playing, spilled beer going down the scuppers and all the banging around from the horseplay.

Actually the 1st time I took my boat tuna fishing, my friend ( an experienced tuna-man) took a bucket of water placed in the middle of the cockpit and played w/ the motor RPM & trim till he got the most vibrations or most ripples in the bucket he could get at the desired speed.

Inboards, outboards, diesel, gas or whatever I've been out there getting skunked while the bigger boats were hooked up and visa versa.

Personally I think it's just the groceries.
