Not surprising, I'm sure they're still playing with the props. I would think there is some more left in that setup.

If you do go the Bahama 31 route, make sure you get the upgraded transom notch. The mold was revised I believe at hull # 9 to lengthen the running surface. This makes a huge difference in the performance of the boat. Be advised that the earler hulls can be partially updated by adding an aftermarket extension in the transom notch, this is done by Henley and they do a nice job of all this.

But.... the aftermarket extension does not extend out the full width of the hull, as the K planes are mounted just under the chine, and are recessed into the running surface, so this area is not possible to change after the fact. I don't know how the performance of the retrofitted boats compares to the factory molded extended running surface, but for my money I would certainly get the later hull.

Almost certainly the leftover '06 does not have the latest hull shape. Make sure and ask. You'd also want the latest Gen II 300 Verado's with VesselView and not the Gen 1 275's. Not much difference in speed, but a big advantage for efficiency with the Gen II engines.

If you ride this boat (an '07 or '08) you'll probably buy it.

But you'll spend all in about 40k more than a 35' SH, for a 31' boat. It will also be slower, and get lower fuel economy with the same power.

It's never easy is it.

I'd be very surprised if the 29 did not turn in better numbers than the 35 when they get it dialed in. Sticking 5 more inches of lower unit in the water adds a lot of drag and while it hurts the speed up top, it uses more fuel at every speed. The 35 is astoundingly light, yet rigid. I was on one at high speed and was amazed at how little flex there was in the hull. If the layup schedule for the 29 is the same, it will be a winner once they get the props and engine height sorted out.

thx for all the advice....it is not taken lightly. I am the beneficiary of all your work....at the very least i owe you a fishing trip. ;-).....i just realized that it might be tough you being in california though. Some more info that might be relevant, although the guy might have been mistaken since everything is in a state of flux right now.......i was told that the prototype has only 220 of fuel. Hull #2 which is almost finished will have the stated 250 and a bit farther back too. I wonder if they can go back to the smaller shaft if they put more fuel and bring it towards the back?
