X10 also has a motion sensor that would make it automatic. You could add a chime module in the house triggered by the motion sensor (with or without the light being activated) to let you know if someone approached the boat

My buddy in FLL had his Pursuit CC boarded twice behind his house and the helm seats were stolen both times. Clearly a case of PE (Pursuit Envy)

I like the remote light but I would go with a street light with a photo eye that comes on at dark. That way my TARGET is always backlit.

Aim for center of mass.

we are losing sight of my intent here:
1. I do not want motion sensors - I have them already on the house that flood the dock when I go to bed if they see motion.
2. I do not want/need a street light at the dock, I have neon docklights on timer. A street light on light sensor gathers bugs like crazy...i do not want to dock in a sea of halogen light the bothers the neighbors and creates a sea of flying insects for me and my guests.....

I only want the focused floodlight on when I am approaching the dock from the south for landing...it is pointing ahead of me so it is not in my eyes when landing and as soon I dock I turn it off. and the dock lights (blue neon) do a fine job of bathing the boat and dock for guests leaving the boat once on the lift...they are on timer that are on every night at 7 and off at 3....nuff siad...

Glen, I don't think anybody is suggesting that you install a motion sensor or anything else. You posted a good idea and some of us are expanding on your idea for others to use. We assume that's why you posted in the first place. X-10 (Leviton has a wide variety of X-10 products also) can be expanded into a wide variety of systems for security and convenience.

Bingo, Like my cousin has a 155' long dock with a St. light on it but he painted the inside of the Globe black so it shines down on the dock with a nice glow and doesn't bother the neighbors , its also on a switch so if there is a guest boat docked he can kill the light.

I do LIKE Glens light set up though and I may use it soon .

agreed and understood......my dock is only 80 foot and both neighbors are within 30 or 40 feet of the dock...any light in my sitaution that goes on, blinds the canal and both houses to each side so I need the momentary on/off.

Do you have a pic of your blue neon dock lights? They sound interesting.

I got these about 4 years ao from a local place. They are 12V neon and are on every piling. Thet are real nice as they shine down and really set the place off from every other home that is using white incandecent on the canal...also preserves night vison... they come to your house with a portable set up and put 4 lights up and switch neon colors until you pick one...they have about 8 diff colors..in 4 years I've had no blow outs and they work every night on the timer...local # was
