Sick(bad sick not good sick) OX66
Twin 2000 225 OX66. Starboard motor at take off sounds like it cavitates and motor lifts up about 5-10 degrees but when you watch the tach the rpm drops from 4000’s to about 1200rpm. Under a load (such as take off, following sea, or stuffing bow off big wave) it loses power, but sounds like its cavitating, rpms go down to about 1200, motor raises about 5-10 degrees and then it revs back up and runs fine until the next big wave. We originally thought it was cavitating but the tach drops rpms which makes no sense. If it is cavitating then the rpms should go up not down. It seems like the motor shouldn't move at all. If you run the starboard motor by itself with the port motor lifted it does lose power but just slightly and it doesn’t seem to tilt at all, but it still sounds like it is cavitating and the rpms seem to jump more than normal. We bypassed the ignition switch with bypass harness straight to motor which revealed nothing. All three fuel filters were replaced and fuel shock treated with ring free. We cleaned O2 sensors but did not test them. I now can do this thanks to somebody’s post on here. We’re replacing plug wires and testing O2 sensors next weekend. My thought is maybe the O2 sensors are completely shot or maybe something in the ECU. One other thought I had is that maybe the motor is raising up before the loss of power and a sensor is killing the power. (Don’t know if that makes any sense at all) When the motor loses power it is only for about 1-2 seconds, the motor raises slightly and then it regains power and immediately digs in and sounds fine until it does it again. I appreciate any info. I’ve got fishing fever bad and this blasted motor problem is killing me.
Thanks Derek
