Over the winter I have been doing work on my 28 Bertram. I already had the deck removed to replace the tank so I decided to clean up the bilge area. The new tank was removed to be recoated in Steel flex epoxy. Some rotten wood was found in the center bulk head so that was cut out, replaced with marine ply, and glassed in. The wiring was not redone but I did go through all the wiring removing old unused wires as well as inspecting the remaining wires and marking where they went. The bilge got a coat of bilgekote to clean it up. Some new exhaust Y pipes. The decks got a new coat of Steel flex epoxy on them with some non skid added and a new paint job. My deck hatches were soft due to the core material having water in them so I removed the old core and glassed new Marine ply in and will be adding new hardware on the hatches to eliminate water from getting to the new core. Removed the hardtop to make it easier to trailer and added a bimini with curtains. I have to finish working on the non removable deck areas in the boat as well as the gunnels and the rest of the top cap but I will make a attempt to get all that done next week.
Here are more pics of the boat being closer to the finish product. Last week I took vacation and worked on the boat. You will notice the area from the front of the windshield forward has had nothing done to it. The reason is I have a soft spot on the bow and I will redo that area once that spot is fixed. I am only doing the area above the rubrail currently. I started by sanding everything, that took a couple of days. Next I applied SteelFlex Epoxy to the deck, gunnels, and flybridge floor. Once the epoxy dried I applied White Easypoxy paint and then applied the non skid ice blue on the gunnels. I have put everything back together with the exception of connecting my fuel fill hoses and putting the fuel fill plates in as I have to order new hoses and I have a couple of fuel hoses I have to order for the new tank. I still have to re-install the outrigger holders and the rod holders. I am trying to make some backing plates for the rod holders for support. After everything is in place I will put the starboard panels back on which will cover the areas on the sides under the gunnels where vinyl and glue used to be. Thats why the paint doesn't look that good on this area. Overall I am pretty happy with how it turned out. The pictures were taken on a cloudy rainy day but when the sun is out the white is blinding. I just hope the Easypoxy paint will hold up on the decks.
Wow. That looks real nice. I love those 28's. My dad had one and we spent a ton of time on it. Huge cockpits and plenty of cabin for a 28 footer. Nice job.

Looks like you are almost there!! I know what you are saying about the rain!! I finally finished everything on the boat tonight!!! Ya Hoo. I did a new radar install, new spot light install and a new 3700 GPH backup bilge pump. Seems like it took forever to get done. I could only work on it a few hours at a time... First good weekend she is headed back on the lift. Cant wait to get her back in the water...Mark
