Default How about your trailer lights? Do they work?

Ya know,,,most of the time they dont.
I had some body ask me how I did mine.

After I almost got a ticket one AM on the way to work,,I spent a few hours in the shop elevating mine on the PVC up-rights that are on the sides of the trailer when I got home.
Like this.

The only two splices (per side) that I do have in my wires are where they will not be under water at all when the trailer is backed into the water.
I have a splice in the wires up by the light and also up by the hitch where it plugs into the truck.
All of them are soldered, liquid elect tape, and then heat shrink tubing finishes it off. I don't know of a better way to do it........

Here is the wire I used. I think it was 1.00 per foot

Nice work. Unfortunally, here in NC, the NCSHP cracked down on people with trailer guides saying that it made us overwidth. I took mine off because without the guides, my boat and trailer measure out at exactly 8'6. I just have to invest in a lot of liquid electrical tape to coat my connections. Here's a pic of my light setup. I have amber LED lights marking the widest point of my load. I'm looking forward to changing everything over to LED because the incandesants tend to burn and vibrate out after a while. I'm about 70% LED right now.

i'M 100% led , 3 YEARS NOW AND NO PROBLEMS , Led's are the greatest thing since Peanut Butter.

Plus the amp draw is way less on the truck's electric system.

That does suk David.
The last boat I had was a McKee Craft Scoundrel that was pretty wide for a 17 foot'er.
I had lights that I would set in the rear rod holders on the back of the boat.
It was a pain in the rectum,,,,but lasted forever.

The LED is the way to go...........

Years ago, Dad had a set up for the sailboat that we raced, and hence trailered a whole lot. It consisted of a wooden bracket with the lights and license plate screwed to it that clamped on the top of the transom and was held on by bungee cords. The wiring was draped over the boat, we tied it down a couple of places with more bungees. It never saw any salt water and worked fine, even if it did look like a pretty redneck solution.

I saw that very same setup yesterday on a buddy's 25' Grady White - he lies it across the motor bracket platform.........I think he may have to add amber lights to the sides to make it legal........ICM

I converted to led lights in 2006. At least 100 launches per year with half of them in the salt and no failures in two years. Bulbs would have been toast a long time ago!! Led lights are the only way to go!!
