Default Wrapping a gaff handle

How exactly do you do this? Any tips appreciated. I just bought a 8 ft gaff today and was wanting to wrap it in some kind of rope or line. I lost a seastriker gaff earlier this year because the handle came off the gaff which is why I want to wrap this one. Thx
