Default Scoop- New 34' Jupiter

Reportedly does 58 with twin 350's. Got to love that beam.

That is one pretty boat and I look ahead to checking it out at the Lauderdale Show later in the month.

If I ever actually start boating more, I will either step down to a smaller Grady center console or a lateral move from my Grady WA to a 27' Jupiter CC cuddy.

John: I know there is some heritage between the boats, but I am stunned at how much it looks like a Venture 34 from astern. Not just a little, but almost identical. The beam stays nearly constant all the way to the stern on both boats. Both have tapered "shoulders" on the transom. The only way you could tell them apart is that the transom door is on the other side and you can make out the forward seating in the Jupiter.

The shots from the front and side could be a Bahama 31 with a different console. The only significant visual difference I see is that the Jupiter's gunwales are flat all the way to the rubrail, whereas the Bahama has a chamfered edge.

With that said, I love the lines.

Yes, the DNA is sure easy to see between the three brands. The changes to the Jupiter are subtle and evoluntionary, here are a couple of comparative pics:

34' Venture

34' Jupiter

The main difference is the bow is much fuller, and the gunnels somewhat higher in the new Jupiter, this is to accomodate the cuddy cabin model that will be launched at Miami. Also, you can see the Jupiter now carries a bit more beam than the Venture, it's about 10'3" at the W/L, 10'7" at the gunnel.

This full bow is also seen in the 31' Bahama:

It seems the trend is to widen the bow, push the beam out, and extend the running surfaces by shortening the amount of notch allowed for the transom step. My guess is the Jupiter has the extended aft running surfaces as well.

Compare this "old school" transom notch from the 38' Jupiter, with the previous Bahama 31' notches:

Before I rode the Bahama 31', I would have bet against that 11' beam working out in a head sea, but boy , was I wrong. Best non-stepped hull I've ever been on.

Wonder how the Jupiter 34' will work out.....

Here's a "bow on" shot of a Venture on the trailer. I don't have a water shot to make a direct comparison, but compare it to the "bow on" shot of the Jupiter. Oh the green boat with the black striping is a Bahama 31. I wonder how many strakes the Jupiter has?
