Default Detroit Diesels

Anyone had problems with heat exchangers, exhaust manifolds, piston rings, etc? We have had a rash of issues in our area with engines needing fairly major repairs with as little as 400 hours on them. Just wondering if it's coincidence or others are having them too.
Thanks for any input

Hi Egghead,
What sort of GM?
We had an 8-71 with N55 injectors in our trawler(shrimper) & put 14000 some hours on it with 2 new sets of injectors, a rebuilt blower assy & maybe a fuel pump. Also needed a new starter motor & a couple of alternators.
Motor was fresh water cooled & chewed out a couple of heat exchanger cores even though we checked ALL pencil zincs on a regular basis. Dry stack exhaust so that simplified things.
