i just got back in from pensacola fishing with Lester.......the motor runs fine at mid range RPM but when put under a load i cant get over 3900......if you rev the motor it turns up high RPMs no problem, its just when you put it in gear and try to run......it just seems as if its not hitting on all cylinders, and shaking pretty bad..has anyone else had this problem or have any suggestions where else to start diagnosing???thanks for any help......BTW all the children at the Bill Hargreaves tournament had a blast, just wish i didnt have to run in early yesterday for motor trouble.........Lester tell Tom and Bobbie thanks so much for the hospitality and i look forward to coming back next year to take more kids out..........research is pointing towards water or bad gas/whole fuel system....BUT I AINT NO MECHANIC

G'Day Stephen,
Sounds like a real PITA.
First up, when you changed out the filter, was there water in there. Did you empty the filter into a glass jar & let the mix settle? The fuel floats on the water & the difference is clear.
Secondly, if you have already done this, how much water was trapped? A Racor style filter will hold a fair quantity of water. It only becomes a problem when the filter is full of water & water then gets into the engine.
The fuel injection system on the Yamaha motors has a good rep but if water ingestion is severe then normally the motor will not run. I suggest that you do NOT start the motor until the problem is identified. Possible trip to a dealer on the horizon?

Stephen,

Change the racor before any further running...

Then, top off with fresh gasoline before any further running.

Keep a spare filter on board just in case.

You've got water in the fuel, and the motor doesn't like it.
