Default Contender 27'

I was wondering if anyone out there had an older model contender 1997-1999 27' with 250hp 4 strokes. I was thinking about upgrading to 4 strokes and was wondering if anyone could tell me how the boat performs with these engines. I know the newer models come with 250hp 4 strokes but wanted to see if anyone had any info on the older models. Contender told me the older models can handle the heavier engines. I was just wondering if anyone had any experiences with this?

I have rode on a few 27 Contenders and the best riding 27 I have been on had 200 hpdis. It ran beautifully. He had to use way less tab than the ones I have been on with four strokes. See if you can find one and see if the owner will give you a ride...Mark

With those heavier motors make sure you have over-sized trim tabs and you may need transom wedges.

Results are mixed from people I've talked to who own a 27 prior to the 27t hull change. Some say the boat runs fine with 225/250 4-strokes, others are not happy. I think the best motors would be HDPI's personally. Great fuel economy plus less weight.

The new 27t was designed for the heavier 4-stroke motors. Contender even had hopes of putting the 350 on the 27t but once wet found out the boat was unsafe.

The 27 has always been one of my favorite boats, good luck.
