Default Any Loran Chain Experts Around?

I want to switch my Lowrance plotter to convert my numbers to Loran, since that is mostly what I go by. I know what my master and slave stations are... I think. Look here:

Loran-C North East U.S. Chain

I am pretty sure I should use Seneca, NY for my master. What about my secondary 1 and secondary 2?? I have four to choose from. Do I use X-Ray (Nantuckett) and Yankee (Carolina Beach) since they are the closest to NC?

Thanks,
Alan

That's what I've got mine set to. Which is what the local carts have on them. 9960 with the X and Y. Works well out of Hatteras.

Thanks Ken. Any idea how accurate the conversion is to the real thing?

I will be in Hatteras from the 20th - 29th. Look me up if you are there.

Hmmm good question on the accuracy. It seems good enough to be able to find wrecks etc. but I'm generally trolling and if we don't hit it on the first pass we go around a few more times. Always manage to run it over but I don't know if there is a difference or not.

9960 is what you want. I believe my manual said that mine was accurate to like 10 meters but I think that garmin was some new logarithm and not similar to the older one but not sure?

Alan,

Maybe a standalone loran just for fishing when you get out, then use the gps to navigate. You can pick up a cheap 2-line furuno loran for about 250 on ebay, in working condition. Furuno RD-30's are about 400 new with antenna. I was gonna buy one from ebay just for navigation while trolling, then leave my plotter set on gps for accuracy. That way I could here the lines as reports came in, use the contour lines from my cmap plotter, and the extra unit would be a backup for navigation if my main plotter failed on me. Just a thought, and hey, another antenna on the top makes you look professional.

Thanks Chris. I am looking on e-bay but for next week, I am going to convert. I understand the conversion now so I don't think it will be a problem. I'll check the accuracy when I get to Hatteras. I know a couple of guys down there with the real deal. I might be able to get a good comparison from one of them.
