Default What is your owned boats history?

I had a Sears 12 foot aluminum row boat in the late 70's, an Ocean Malibu II kayak, a Boston Whaler 160 Ventura, Boston Whaler 190 Nantucket, Parker 2520 Pilothouse, and currently a Boston Whaler 110 Tender and a Parker 21SE.

Please excuse the Mercury on the Tender. My bad.

The first boat my family had was a 1970 something 23' Sportcraft with the flush cabin with a 454 Chevy Inboard.
My first boat was an old 12' fiberglass skiff made by Sears? It never left our driveway since it had no trailer or motor and I was 11 when I bought it for $150. Turned around and sold it a year later for $250 so that was pretty good.
After I sold my skiff, my Dad bought me a 14' fiberglass V hull made by B-craft with a 4.5HP Johnson. Damn, that thing was slow but I caught a lot of fish in it.
Then we stepped up to a new 20' Trophy WA in 1996 with a 120 Force on it. A lot of people bash Trophy and Force but the only problems we had in 5 yrs of owning it was a cracked livewell lid, burned out macerator pumps, and the brackets for the jump seats breaking.
I then bought a 17' Blazer bass boat as soon as I got out of college with a 200 Mercury for $2000. Worst thing I ever bought. On my second trip out the engine locked up on me so I repowered with a new 150 Mercury and I used it less than 15 times in 3 or 4 years.
AFter the Blazer, I decided that I was going to try restore a 1978 20 Robalo and swap my newish 150 Mercury from the bass boat to the Robalo. That never quite worked out and I lost my a$$ on the $1000 I spent on the boat, the money I spent on the rigging, and the money I paid for the motor. Turned around and sold it to a friend for $2000 for the motor.
Finally, after I married my wife we bought our new 23' Seaswirl in 2005. She made the mistake later that summer saying that we needed more room. We still have the Seaswirl and it is a great boat for what I do but I'm looking to step up to a used 25 Contender within the next year. Afterall, it was her idea!

Let's see:

1968 Dad bought a wood, 44 foot Canadian built lobster boat. Piece of crap. Went through the water like a wet cigar.

1971 Dad got a 21 foot glass boat with an I/O. Lots of engine probs but handled well. I can't remember the brand right now but it might have been an Annacapri.

1974 Dad got a 28 foot Bertram. Real boat! We had that boat into the early eighties and when he sold it he got quite a bit more than he paid for it.

In 1986 I bought an 18 foot Tashmoo skiff on Martha's Vineyard. Fun boat, real wet but stable.

1988 my father and I bought a 34 foot wood Ronald Rich lobster boat built in Southwest Harbour Maine. 9 to 10 knot cruise. Dad agreed it was the best boat we ever owned. Had to sell it to buy a house though. Bummer.

Now I own a 25 foot Hydra Sport walk around with twin 140 Suzuki's. Nice solid economical boat. Good compromise in ride and speed.

Back in the 70s I had a few jonboats with assorted outboards depending on what I could find cheap and fix up. I bought a 19' wooden boat in partnership with a friend in the early 80s. Big mistake. Went back to jonboats and used stuff.

In 1991 I bought a new 16' Alumacraft Bassboat powered by a 25 hp Mercury. I sold it in 1993 and replaced it with a 1988 Procraft Fish & Ski with a 135 Mariner on it. We kept the Procraft until 1996 and I sold it and replaced it with a 1993 17' Monterey runabout/ 4.3 Alpha.

I sold the Monterey after it started the $1500 here and $1500 there hole in the water problem in 1999. Went ATV riding for a few years and then I bought a Kawasaki STX 15F Jetski in 2004. That thing was lightnin fast.

I never road the thing. and traded it this year for my current boat. It had less than 45 hours on it.

In 1962 I bought my first boat, a 16' Ryan fiberglass over plywood. 16 feet long, with an 8 foot beam, it would rather have broached than gone straight.
Followed by:
1971 13 foot Whaler
1974 21 foot Whaler Outrage
1980 18 foot Chris Craft Ski Boat
1984 Spectra 18 jet boat
1986 Carrerra 21 jet Boat
1986 Parker 25 Open
1988 Sanger Blown Gas Hydro - 18 feet and 1500 horsepower - Fun!
1990 Carrerra 21 IO
1993 Talon 22 w/Twin Drag 300's
1996 Stamas 29 Tarpon
2002 Jupiter 31
2002 Venture 34

I currently own the 1990 Carrera and the 2002 Venture

There are others than have come and gone, like a couple Hobie cats.

If I can recall them all-

old wooden thing with an old black motor
1984 Chris Craft bow rider
1986 Checkmate Diplomat bow rider
1983 Mitchell 21 center console
1991 Lowes 14
1994 Cape Horn 21
1997 Parker 23DV SC
2001 Dusky 256 FC
2002 Triton 2895
2004 Contender 23T
2005 Yamaha Waverunner
2005 McKee 23 Tournament
2005 Contender 25

When I was younger the chicks would stick to the Checkmate like green tree frogs . When I was able to quit moving around so much and get back to the coast, the fishing boat pushed out the pleasure boat. So far, I like the latest boat best.
