Default ** Boat on Lift Question **

Hey everyone this year I am storing the boat on a lift . Do you leave your onboard charger plugged in all the time? I have a three stage charger and it is on trickle 90% of the time.

Pros and cons on this would be great.....Mark

From what I have read, the more you charge your batteries the less life you get out of them. Not to brag but mine are going on 3 years and 800 hours. With a boat like yours or mine there is no need to keep charging the batteries because you have nothing going on. No a/c running, no frig, the boat is not in the water so you don't have to worry about the bilge pumps, etc. Just shut your swithches off and you should have no problems.

actaully the opposite is true - the right type of charger will lengthen the life of a batt by a wide margin if hooked to your batts all the time you are not using it. A 3 stage smartchger type does not "trickle".. it floats so the batts always stay 100% charged...and that's what makes 'em last. Read more here about batt types and charging here:

Kern O , how often are ya running her ?

I would think a good run once a week in your neck of the woods you would not need shore power, that is if everything is shut off.
