In the article it sounds like they all got off OK. Then the boat caught fire again later and ended up in the condition pictured.

Maybe the first fire wasn't enough for the insurance company to total it. Looks like the second one did the trick.

I was at that fire with the DI VFD. When I got there, just a bit before 3:00 a.m., that boat was totally engulfed in fire.

We hit it with two hoses, then FFF, then more water. That fire was wicked. A 2 1/2" hose at 3/4 open blasting it did not phase it.

We left the scene around 7:45 a.m. Talk about a whipped butt.

Opened my eyes to fire on fiberglass boats. The three fire exstinguishers I carry on the charter boat surely don't seem like enough after seeing first hand what it took to get that fire put out. If you have a fire on a boat, you'd better get that sucker put out FAST, because once the fiberglass becomes the fuel, it gets evil.

No idea. A couple of Coasties strolled down a couple of hours into the fight and told me that it was the boat that had been towed in from the Bay Saturday evening. They mentioned that the boat's Halon system had discharged on the first fire, so that makes me think engine room.

Fire Chief was ticked that no one bothered to call the fire dept. to check the boat over before they tied it up at Billy Goat Hole. We were told Sea Tow did the towing. Supposedly someone was to be keeping an eye on the boat throughout the night. No one showed any ownership the entire time we were there.
