Fire extinguisher placement
I was cleaning the imaginary blood off my boat awhile ago(imaginary because it's way too damn rough to fish right now), and noticed ....no fire extinguisher. I was surprised that I hadn't noticed that before. So, where would you guys install one? Where are ya'lls installed?? Is there a law that says where one must be placed???Thx for the help guys

I'm gonna mount mine on a t-top leg where it won't get ripped off and everyone can see it. If you have a plastic safety pin replace it with a stainless one.
The second one is mounted inside the console on the wall near the door, with the standard plastic mounting bracket.
I keep a third underneath the flip up bench seat on the leaning post.
Can you tell I'm afraid of fire on my boat?

I only have two, but just like Chris I have one mounted just inside the center console door and the other one is under the flip up leaning post seat. I would have two in separate locations.

A word to the wise. With the vibration in a boat, one needs to take them out now and then and shake them up.If you don't,the vibration will compack the powder at the bottom and will NOT discharge it when you really need it.
Now the rules. It states that a fire extinguisher needs to be mounted were one can get to it in a emergency. So,that means that you can't have it storge away deep inside a cabin or way under inside your console under all kinds of crap. With that in mine,I have one mounted just inside the door of the console and one mounted just inside the cuddy door.
One other thing.Fire extinguishers don't last long in a boat and should be replaced about once every two years and that is if you shake them up now and then. With the old ones, use them to learn how to use them with a small fire at your house in your backyard. To do that, just light off your BBQ pit. Also this is a very good time to teach your wife and kids on how to use them the right way.

Ideal locations for your boat are one just inside the console door and one mounted to the inside port side of the transom (pretty much a dead space there). Mine aren't this way, but will be soon.

Mine lives in the cabin along side the EPIRB. Easy to grab yet out of the weather. And I also shake it up every three months. The green masking tape stops wasps & the like building mud nests in the nozzle. The tape will blow off if the extinguisher is activated.

Great ideas on placement. Now, as far as installation goes. Would you guys predrill a small hole, fill it with 5200, let dry, then screw in the extinguisher mount? Or would you just use the 5200 like glue and smear the back of the mount and stick it onto the fiberglass somewhere? Suggestions??

We "shake" our extinguishers here at the nuclear plant at least once every month.....then again we are a bit conservative when it comes to anything safety related.
We also have a LOT of C02 extinguishers which are nice to have around because there's not much up keep.
